Stick insects in the dark

Mating stick insects. I am not sure what the bulbous growth on the female reflects, aging or disease.. Does anyone know? Not a very clear image.. but hey… they have rights to some privacy.

  1. Those stick insects (Phasmatodea) are a couple of Ocnophiloidea regularis. Very common in Trinidad. The female is covered by parasits.

    • Thanks Yannick. I imagined, at some point, that were parasitic bulbs if not disease, but do you know what parasite this is? Is it specific to stick insects?
